Privacy Policy

How LCN handles personal information.

Effective August 28, 2026 · Last updated August 28, 2026

Who we are

LCN (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a free, volunteer coordination tool that helps people move livestock to safety during wildfire evacuations in British Columbia, Canada. The app is operated by Sixth Summit Development Inc. on behalf of the Livestock Coordination Network (LCN).

We handle personal information in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

Information we collect

We collect only what the app needs to connect people during an evacuation.

You provide directly

Your phone number (sign-in and contact), name, role (owner, hauler, or host), property and animal details (property name and address, animal types and counts, notes, preferred destination), trailer/rig details for haulers, available space details for hosts, and optional photos of your animals or property. If you create a Neighbour Assist profile for a neighbour without a smartphone, you provide their name, phone, and property details — you must have their consent to do so.

Collected automatically

With your permission, your device’s location is used to place a pin on your property and to show and rank nearby evacuation requests by distance. You can decline location access; some features will be limited. We also process a user account identifier and basic technical data needed to operate the service and deliver notifications.

From text messages

If you text our service number (for offline SOS or status updates), we process the content of those messages and your phone number to carry out your request. Inbound and outbound messages are logged as an audit record.

We do not collect payment information. Donations, where offered, are made directly by e-Transfer; LCN never handles or processes funds.

How we use your information

  • To sign you in securely and keep your session active.
  • To create, match, and update evacuation requests between owners, haulers, and hosts.
  • To show relevant nearby requests and available space on the map and board.
  • To let participants contact each other by phone during a rescue.
  • To send you notifications about requests and matches (push and/or SMS).
  • To verify trusted coordinators (verification badges).
  • To keep an audit log of actions and messages for safety and accountability.
  • To maintain, secure, and improve the service.

We do not use your information for advertising, we do not sell it or share it with data brokers, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

When your information is shared with other users

Hosts’ listed space, general area, and contact details are shown to people seeking placement. Haulers’ name and contact details are shared with an owner once they respond to that owner’s request. Only share information you are comfortable providing to other participants for the purpose of coordinating a rescue.

Service providers

We use trusted third parties to run the app; they process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments: Supabase (database, authentication, and backend, hosted in the Canada Central region), Twilio (one-time passcodes, notifications, and inbound SMS), Apple (push notification delivery and App Store distribution), and a map provider for maps and wildfire/evacuation overlays. Wildfire and evacuation-order overlays are derived from publicly available BC open data.

Data storage, security, and retention

Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure located in Canada. Access is enforced by row-level security: by default your records are private to you, and owner contact/address is exposed to haulers only while a request is active. Credentials are stored securely on your device. We retain your account and property/animal information for as long as your account is active, and message and action logs for a reasonable period for safety and accountability. We delete or anonymize information when it is no longer needed, or on your request.

One exception: when you sign the Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability in the app, we keep a record of that signature (your name as typed, your phone number, the time and the version signed). That record is retained after you delete your account, unlinked from your profile, because it documents a legal agreement.

Your choices and rights

Under PIPEDA and BC PIPA you may access the personal information we hold about you, correct inaccurate information (much of it you can edit directly in the app), withdraw consent and delete your account and associated personal information (subject to limited records we must keep for legal or safety reasons), and turn off location and notification permissions at any time in your device settings.

You can delete your account yourself in the app (Settings → Delete my account); deletion is immediate. For any other request, contact us at loic@sixthsummit.io. We will respond within a reasonable time.

Children

LCN is intended for adults responsible for livestock and property. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will post the updated version at this URL and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated in the app where appropriate.
